Luke Birch is a 21 year old YouTube star with over 260k subscribers. He produces comedy, lifestyle and education videos mainly based on the trials and tribulations of university life, spilling the entire pot of tea making his content relateable and inspiring. Luke's videos are unapologetically real and honest whilst also incorporating comedy and letting his audience escape from reality, even if it's only for 10 minutes.
"I find it much easier to see myself as a caffeinated-meal-deal-infused-student crying in the library at 3am, over a glossy air-brushed version of what a student should be." said Luke.
Who hasn't cried in the library lets be honest!?
Luke's sole aim is to spread positivity and joy, and appreciates more than anything the support he gets from those who watch his videos.
"There is no better feeling than meeting my viewers in person or reading their kind messages of support. It's such an oxymoron to me; when a viewer tells me I have inspired them, I can only reply with the same.
If it wasnt for the incredible support from strangers around the world over the last six years, I wouldn't be who I am today. They have, in equal measure, saved my life." Gushes Luke.
Luke was inspired to start his YouTube career when he was on a work experience placement.
Luke said: "I was doing an internship at The Sun newspaper working on an article about the Vine star Jerome Jare, who was famous for spreading positivity around the world.
Vine had just blown up and one of my colleauges said 'You have a funny personality, you should do Vine!'. I refused flat out. If I was to tell stories, I needed more than 6 seconds.
A lunch break later, he came back to my desk and said 'what about YouTube?'... I went home that night, uploaded a video and the rest is history."
However, Luke's success didn't happen overnight, his hard work and determination to keep up his content alongside his educational career has been a journey.
"Growth was the hardest thing. For the first four years on the platform, my channel was basically stagnant. I was making content that I loved, but it had no niche. One week I would react to Demi Lovato's latest music video, the next I would talk about my top 5 study tips. It didn't make sense.
It was only when I started to find my niche with education that I found success as one of the pioneers of 'StudyTube' alongside UnJaded Jade, Ruby Granger, Eve Bennett, Eve Cornwell, Jack Edwards, Lydia Violeta and so many more." Explains Luke.
Luke manages to balance his life at the University of Lincoln and content creating pretty well. However third year and dissertation writing have certianly hit like a ton of bricks.
Luke said: "Throughout second year of uni when I was travelling what felt like every week between Lincoln, London, Los Angeles, D.C and so on, I managed to balance everything perfectly. This year is a different story. I have to prioritise my studies, which themselves have gone into overdrive, becuase I know my channel won't last forever."
Luke's favourite creators are his friends! To name a few, UnJaded Jade, Jack Edwards, Eve Cornwell, Lydia Violeta and Charlotte Emily.
We just want to say a massive thank you to Luke for talking to us at this busy time of year!
