An Afternoon with Charlotte Emily Price...

Updated: Jun 28, 2020

On Monday we spent the afternoon with content creator Charlotte Price (@charlotteemilyprice on Instagram), learning about how she balances uni and blogger life and more importantly how she learned to love her body and become a #bodyposipal

Charlotte firstly started blogging in 2014 as an online space for her to share her love for beauty, fashion, travelling and life experiences. In 2016 she created her YouTube channel 'charlotteemilyprice' and began creating makeup tutorials, fashion videos and vlogs. After moving to the University of Lincoln in 2017 to study forensic science, Charlotte began creating uni vlogs and sharing her tips and tricks to surviving uni life.

Fast forward to today, Charlotte has over 10,000 followers on Instagram and 7,000 subscribers on YouTube.

We met Charlotte in her fave hangout spot, Caffe Nero, to chat all things body positivity and find out about the life of a university blogger.

We asked Charlotte: "What do you enjoy the most about being a content creator?" and she said: "Probably the socialising aspect, even though it might seem lonely because I film on my own most of the time, I find it gets me out, socialising and meeting new people (like you guys) and I find people get in contact with me a lot more than if I wasn't doing it. And I really enjoy meeting new people."

Charlotte has had her YouTube channel on the side of school and university her whole life, and this year in particular it has taken off to the extent that she now classes creating content for social media as a part time job. She began her YouTube channel in 2016 as she wanted another social platform where she could speak and interact rather than write. Charlotte said: "When I first started I wasn't thinking of it as a job or anything, I was writing because I genuinely enjoyed it and I wanted to be a writer.

"Now I've realised I want to use this platform I've created to spread awareness of things for good reasons, rather than just entertainment."

While on holiday in Bali this summer, Charlotte created the hashtag 'bodyposipals' and has used it to spread the inspiring message to girls all over the country to love their body and embrace their imperfections.

Charlotte said: "I'd seen people create their own hashtags, and I decided that I wanted to do one. I wanted to spread body positivity and self love, I thought it would be nice that if someone posted a picture where they are feeling quite confident in themselves, that they're doing a really good thing and I want them to recognise that.

"I think body positivity has been a massive thing in social media, I acknowledged it a lot when I was growing up and I had a very toxic mindset about losing weight when I didn't need to. Now I want to embrace who I have become and make it more of a positive message and spread body positivity."

Charlotte's audience is mainly people who are aged 16 and above, because she creates a lot of university stuff and this is the age range that are generally looking at coming to university. She said: "I know a lot of people are struggling with body positivity in today's society so it is good for me to be able to use my platform to raise awareness for self love."

We asked Charlotte: "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" she said: "I think it just depends what comes my way I guess, if stuff comes up through my YouTube, I will definitely take it on, because social media could die any second and I would regret not taking up opportunities that were given to me.

"In terms of YouTube and blogging, I would like to eventually bring something out that is about body positivity and self love, maybe clothes?" so watch this space for body posi merch!

We also asked Charlotte why she uniquely doesn't want to be called an 'influencer' and her response was "I think it just has bad connotations, and I just don't like the word in general...I think it's really overused and anyone is called an influencer nowadays. I'd rather be called a 'content creator', I also don't like the term 'YouTuber', because I feel like I have one person watching me.

"I forget that actual people watch my videos, like when I'm out and people come up to me I just forget that other people watch them and not just my friends."

To finish the interview we asked the taboo question 'would you ever promote something you didn't like?' Charlotte said: "It's so different with every campaign, some brands have more money than others. I tell my manager not to tell me the price a brand is offering, because I don't want that to stray me. I prefer to know what I'm promoting and then agree to it before knowing the price."

Charlotte's favourite bloggers/creators include: inthefrow, lornaluxe, Lucy Wood and Chessie King.

Shoutout to Charlotte for agreeing to be the first person to be interviewed for our magazine, she's a truly amazing gal with some incredible and enviable Instagram and YouTube content.
